Deadline: June 19, 2017

Studio 180 Theatre is seeking submissions to its Studio 180 IN DEVELOPMENT program.

Now in its third year, IN DEVELOPMENT seeks to support Canadian playwrights and theatre creators by offering a helping hand in the development of new work exploring provocative social and political issues.

Studio 180 IN DEVELOPMENT will take place over two periods in the 2017/2018 season:

Fall: September 25 – October 15, 2017
Spring: April 9 – 29, 2018

What we provide:

Support from Studio 180 IN DEVELOPMENT can take the form of work space, dramaturgy, actors for workshops and/or public reading. The nature of support provided will vary based on the needs of a given script. Writers will be paid a fee for participation in the project.

What we ask of you:

Applicants should be available to physically participate in at least a portion of one of these designated periods in Toronto. While not guaranteed, our expectation is that there will be at least one public presentation and, if applicable, one high school presentation of the material during the IN DEVELOPMENT period, and that the artist will participate in a post-reading talkback session.

Submissions will be accepted by email only (PDF format) with the subject heading Studio 180 IN DEVELOPMENT and should include:

  1. A project description, including a synopsis of the piece, the work’s history of development and a description of the playwright / creator’s goal or what they hope to achieve creatively during the IN DEVELOPMENT period. (Maximum 2 pages)
  1.  The current draft of the work in progress. If the work is in an early stage of development, please send a sample from a past work of a similar nature/style.
  1. A statement of your current availability for the development periods.

Our desire is to support work that reinforces Studio 180’s commitment to provocative and insightful explorations of contemporary issues. Applications from diverse playwrights and creators, including but not limited to writers of colour, women, Indigenous and LGBTQ artists, are especially encouraged.

Submissions and questions should be sent to Mark McGrinder at: indev@studio180theatre.com. All submissions must be received by midnight, Monday, June 19, 2017.
