You can help us shape our future.

For the past sixteen years, Studio 180 Theatre’s mission has been to present high-calibre productions of plays that provoke conversations and engage audiences with contemporary social and political issues. When you buy a ticket or donate, you become a partner in helping us to fulfill our mission. And you provide the resources we need to continue programming provocative and challenging works.

But did you know that when you support us, you’re also supporting young people?

It’s been my privilege and joy to lead our education and outreach activities since the company’s inception. In 2009, we launched a workshop program for high school students called Studio 180 IN CLASS. This program now serves over 600 high school students each year from across the Greater Toronto Area. The goals of our IN CLASS program are:

  • To use theatre to humanize social and political issues, explore multiple viewpoints and foster empathy
  • To inspire the next generation of theatre-goers by illuminating the unique ways in which theatre impacts our lives
  • To encourage students to ask Big Questions about their world and find new ways to look for answers

Of all the work we do at Studio 180 Theatre, I am most proud of the relationships we nurture.

I’m proud of the relationships we have with our artists and artistic partners. I’m proud of our relationships with audience members like you. And I’m proud of the deep relationships we’ve built with teachers, school boards and students.

Our education work is important and necessary. And here’s how I know:

  • I know it when a student expresses joy and enthusiasm having experienced their very first play.
  • I know it when a teacher tells me that attendance for our workshops is higher than their usual attendance because students are excited to participate.
  • I know it when alumni of our education program become regular patrons at our shows, and continue to engage with our programming long after they graduate.

We’re making a difference.

The young people we work with are intelligent, passionate and energetic—it’s a privilege to engage with them and encourage them to stretch beyond their comfort zone, to be more critical and to have more empathy.

Today, I’m asking you to please consider donating to Studio 180 Theatre’s Shaping our Future campaign. We’re trying to raise $20,000 before January 1. 

To inspire you to give, Studio 180 Theatre’s Board of Directors has pledged to match new donations, or increased annual donations, up to $6,000. That means that the impact of your gift is amplified.

What kind of future do we want to create? How can we shape our world into that future? These are the questions we’re examining with young people. When you donate to Studio 180 Theatre, you’re making sure these engagements and conversations with young people continue.
