A letter from Joel Greenberg
How can 20 years fly by so quickly?
Studio 180 Theatre began as an artist collective to produce one play, The Laramie Project, and now we’re all 20 years older.
When you are focused on choosing bold, provocative plays to bring to our audiences, finding available performance space, and securing the funding needed to make our plans reality, twenty years can seem like a blink in time.
We began our company with the generosity, faith and trust of theatre-goers, personal friends and family and a public intrigued by the work we were passionate to bring to Toronto. And I know that without supporters and donors like you, Studio 180 would never have grown past its first couple of years.
My greatest surprise as Artistic Director for the past two decades is how we grew from a one-off collective to an operating company with caring, dedicated staff, board volunteers, and a loyal audience who follows us from season to season. Along the way, we’ve partnered with other companies who share our vision and our love of theatre, developed a robust education program and helped to develop many new Canadian works that have made it to the stage with full productions – all things that I could never have imagined when we first began our journey.
As we celebrate our first twenty years, we also look forward to our next twenty years and ask for YOUR support.
Studio 180 has launched our 20 FOR 20 Fundraising Campaign with the goal of raising $18,000 by December 31st. The funds raised will directly help us to produce two mainstage Canadian premiere productions next year.
If you have seen any of our work and believe in the importance of what we do, please consider donating $20, $200 or any multiple of 20 in honour of our first twenty years.
If you are already a donor, I ask that you consider increasing your support by 20% this year.
Donate today and our Board of Directors will match your donation dollar-for-dollar up to $6,000.
Over the coming weeks, we are celebrating twenty of our mainstage productions from our first twenty years. Please be sure to follow our social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as we take a look back at some of our hit shows.
As Studio 180 moves into a new chapter and its next twenty years, I am deeply grateful to you for your support. Thank you for being a part of our first twenty years and for joining us as we move into our next twenty years.
